Sedation Dentistry

Dental Treatment For Nervous Patients

Dental sedation is used to help you feel more relaxed when you’re in the dentist's chair. It’s a useful option for patients who may be particularly anxious about their appointment and it can be used for more complex procedures - it’s about helping you to access the dental treatment you need for a healthy, happy smile.

What Is Dental Sedation?

Sedation is something that we offer at 71 Dental to help patients who require a little extra help to feel comfortable during a visit to us. It doesn’t make you go to sleep like a general anaesthetic. Instead, you feel deeply relaxed, pain-free and are able to speak to the dentist throughout your procedure.

We will provide you with plenty of information well in advance of your appointment so you know what to expect, and what will happen afterwards. As a quick overview, it’s important to know that you won’t be able to drive or exercise for about 24 hours after your sedation. We will also recommend you leave the clinic with a nominated person who can help get you home safely.

Why Use Dental Sedation?

71 Dental offers sedation as a way for anxious patients to access the treatment they need. For some people it can be a helping hand to aid them getting through an invasive treatment that worries them, such as implants or root canal.

Whilst we will provide every possible tip, trick and piece of advice to support a patient to overcome dental anxiety, it’s important that in the meantime, methods like sedation are available so that oral health is not neglected.

Dental Anxiety In Adults

Anxiety is incredibly common and the entire team at 71 Dental understand it, and know how to help patients who struggle with it. Our priority is to help you to get the oral treatment that you need. Whether that means enabling you to come into the clinic repeatedly to get used to the space without having treatment, or offering deep relaxation in the form of sedation, we’ve got a range of tips, tricks and approaches to help you to overcome your treatment anxiety. We’re not here to judge, we’re here to help.

Dental Anxiety In Children

Children can often avoid anxiety by coming to the dentist from their very first tooth, and having repeat positive experiences whilst sat in the treatment room.

Our team is passionate about helping children feel confident and happy about their oral health. Every appointment will cater to your child's natural curiosity, and ensure they feel comfortable throughout their check-up. Many children are very proud of brushing their teeth and showing us the results of their hard work.

Children can pick up a lot of emotional cues from their parents, so if you are confident and relaxed about your dental treatment and oral care regime, they will usually follow suit.

If your child is suffering from anxiety about their visit, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate their needs. The sooner they feel more relaxed and happy about their visits, the quicker dental anxiety can be overcome so that it doesn’t grow to be a bigger problem that escalates.
